What you will need from the kitchen.
- Chopping board and knife.
- A medium-sized bowl to marinate the prawns.
- Large frying pan and wooden spoon to cook prawn stir fry.
- Serving platter or bowl with a spoon
Cooking the spicy Sri Lankan prawn stir fry.
Remove the head, devein the prawns. Wash the prawns thoroughly. Set aside to drain excess water.
Place the prawn in a bowl, add turmeric powder, season with salt and squeeze in the lime juice.
Combine well and set aside for 10 to 15 minutes.
Place a frying pan over low-medium heat. Add a tablespoon of oil.
Add the marinated prawns without the marinade into the heated oil.
Cook the prawns until they just turn pink and transfer to a bowl.
Place the same frying pan over the stove, pour oil and let it heat for a few seconds.
Add curry leaves, let them sizzle and then add the minced ginger and garlic.
Stir the ginger and garlic paste until they release their aroma.
Add the Cinnamon piece, followed by the fresh green or red chillies.
Continue to mix as you add the ingredients.
Now add the chopped tomatoes.
Cook for 60 seconds and then add the sliced onions.
Add the sliced onions. Stir fry the onions for a few minutes, 3 to 5 minutes, or until they turn soft.
Continue to break down the chopped tomatoes.
Add pepper powder, red chilli flakes, red chilli powder and mix well.
You can increase or reduce the amount of chilli powder you use.
Once you have the onion tempering done, add the cooked prawns.
Mix well over low to medium heat. Season with salt and serve warm.

- 500g of Prawn, cleaned deveined(can use defrosted frozen skinless prawns as substitute)
- 1/4 teaspoon of Turmeric powder
- Salt as needed
- 1 tablespoon of Lime juice
- 1/4 cup oil(use as needed)
- Handful of curry leaves
- 1 tablespoon of minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 1 inch cinnamon piece
- 3 green or red chillies
- 1 medium-sized tomato chopped
- 1 large onion sliced fine
- 1 teaspoon pepper powder(increase or reduce)
- 1 teaspoon of Red chilli flakes(increase or reduce)
- 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder(increase or reduce)
